Christian Heritage has done its dash

After 17 years of not getting into Parliament, the Christian Heritage Party has decided against changing its name after all and has called it a day, tarred by the conviction and prison sentence of former leader Graham Capill for kiddyfiddling.

CHP was a party that was rejected by the Christian community for years on end, and I told Capill many years ago that he would never get elected into Parliament, and neither would his party and now I have been proved right.

The CHP is the only party that has had an MP in Parliament that has contested elections and has had nobody elected. Frank Grover was briefly a CHP MP in 1998 when he defected from the Alliance, but all the other parties in Parliament that have contested elections since 1935:National,Labour, New Labour, Values, NZ Party, NZ First, Social Credit, Act, United, United Future, Mana Motuhake, Alliance, Progressives, Greens, Maori, etc, all had MPs elected. But not CHP. Other parties in Parliament that didnt have an elected menber - like Mana Wahine and Mauri Pacific - didn't actually contest elections as far as I am aware.
