Mayor sees the light

Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast did not approve of Transmission Gully, and voted against it, preferring a coastal highway. She said most councillors favoured the highway and that Transmission Gully would eat up too much of the roading budget.

Trouble is that most of the other mayors in the region supported Transmission Gully. Now that it is all go, the Council concedes that most people support the Gully and consequently the WCC may support it too.

This is a major U -turn, but one the council was pretty much forced to make. If you`re interested in Wellingtons transport issues , theres a public meeting on Tuesday at St John's in the City.
