"put up or shut up" - Clark

David Benson Pope wasn't gone by lunchtime. Probably because he is not a Maori, and is in the Labour left.

Helen Clark has told complainants who have been abused by David Benson Pope to "put up or shut up". So they are putting up.

Helen Clark has said because DBP has already been investigated that is the end of the matter. Oh great, you are likely to have committed one crime, and because you are not charged, that means you are not guilty of any further crimes, based on an earlier investigation. Now that'snonsense.

The Briefing Room reports that a case is about to break of a boy kneed in the groin by David Benson-Pope at a school camp. A mother of one of the girls alleged to have been hit with a ruler was interviewed on TV tonight. If her allegation is true, then Benson-Pope has breached S139 of the Education Act banning corporal punishment in schools. If it wasn't administered as punishment, then it is abuse, which is also banned.

As for the complaint that was laid, is the Bayfield High principal not talking to the media because he wants to protect DBP. Did he pass the complaint on to DBP - who later said in Parliament, "I am not aware of any complaints"? If not, he didn't do his job, if so, David Benson Pope is a liar.

The complainants are right to put up until DPB either denies or admits the allegations.

Wait until Clark says striking with a ruler was reasonable behaviour in those days, the same type of reasonable behaviour she is now in favour of banning (s 59).
