Another rape case, more suppression

The Dominion Post reports that one of four men convicted of raping a woman is out of jail on bail after the Court of Appeal overturned his conviction and ordered a retrial. The lawyers for two of the men were in court and rang their clients shortly after the decision. One is obviously pleased, while the other is planning to take the case further. The other two men are obviously still in jail and their lawyers were not at court yesterday.

Also, in another story, former Rotorua CIB chief John Dewar was committed for trial in Hamilton District Court today – but all details around the case have been suppressed as well. Dewar is fairly well known for this, and has also, along with another policeman has been involved in group sex similar to the Nicholas case, except that all parties have publically stated that the sex was consensual.

And that group sex involved Brad Shipton, who was acquitted of raping Louise Nicholas.
