5000 weddings, 205 civil unions
Six months down the track and all those people clamouring to have wanted a civil union are still legally unrecognosed, if they are still in a relationship. Who knows, maybe some of them are now single.
Where is the damand for such crap legislation? Someone tell me.Civil Union celebrants outnumber couples by three to one, assuming all couples are still together.
Celebrant Calum Bennachie, who is not in a civil union, has a good handle on things, saying "The numbers of people who may take up civil union may be quite low simply because when you are looking at gay and lesbian couples - they aren't all that large a percentage of the population."
So this is an Act for gays and lesbians? Someone go and tell David Benson Pope, the Minister Who Promoted Heterosexual Civil Unions. Someone also give Calum Bennachie a ring, as far as I know he is not actually a celebrant, in the active sense. How many civil unions has he presided over? None. He's waiting for your call. Hes not the only one.
