Christian vote 2
Quite a few people are interested in the Christian vote - many of whom don't vote for Christian parties. Like myself. Like Craig Young. Like many church pastors. Like most people in United Future.
But the Christian vote - from parties who call themselves Christian parties - is pitched at conservatives. Not socialist or liberals. But even many in the Maxim Institute will not vote for Christian parties.
The fact that we dont have an "organised religious right" in this country is a good thing. Most Chrisitan voters disassociate the moral failings of Graham Capill with the Christian Heritage Party, but Capill hasn't affected their vote. It is still not with a Christian party.
Christian Heritage leader Ewan McQueen thinks Christian parties should not represent one church, like he says Destiny does. However, I don't agree that a party - whether it is Christian or not - can represent just one sector of society - in CHPs case, one sector of the church. The conservative church. And only some of them. The ones that dont like civil unions or politicians who reform prostitution laws.
Strangely enough, not one of those involved in a Christian party are prostitutes, or in a civil union. Or use prostitutes. Well, you`d hope they don't, wouldn't you? Yet the morality survey in the SST noted that a lot of Christian Heritage voters look at porn. I recon Capill did, too.
What impact will Christian parties have in parliament? They wont be in Government as they don't want to go into coalition with anyone. No party has been elected in to Parliament without a current sitting or former MP since.. well can anyone tell me? It's way before 1993.
I'm not blogging for the next few days. I'm a bit busy until Monday. I need to buy some more coffee and catch up on some sleep.

Uh, Dave? Amanda M is related to UFNZ candidates, Bruce Logan used to be involved with the Christian Democrats, and one of their nzvotes.org questions is about Larry Baldocks' Marriage (Gender Clarification) Bill?
Still sure that there isn't some overlap between Maxim and UFNZ? Incidentally, d'you think Logan's recent remarks about multiculturalism suggest trying to suck up to NZF? If so, why, considering
Brown's Death With Dignity Bill during this term?
