suicide bombings

During the publicity and media coverage of the London bombings it is timely to remember that more than 100 have been killed in Iraq in six suicide attacks in the past week or so, and more than 350 since May. That is nearly seven times the amount killed in the London bombings. Can you imagine what the media response in western democracies would be if this happened in London, New York or Sydney?

A death in a western country due to a suicide bomber is deemed worthy of greater coverage purely because it is more likely that a New Zealander or someone from a western country like UK, US, Australia, Canada or New Zealand could be affected.

Just food for thought, and in no way aimed to minimise anything of the atrocities in London. Just an observation that life seems cheap when you are so far removed.
58 died in suicide attack
80 dead in Iraq suicide bombings
NZ Herald - suicide bomber in fuel truck kills 60
