Bars told to cut the noise
It is NZ safety week this week, and Department of Labour officials have gone to bars and club to tell them to cut down the noise levels even though bar staff have plugs. This, of course, is a reaction to noise-induced hearing loss.
But I bet Department of Labour officials won't go around businesses and government departments - including their own - telling data entry operators to slow down to avoid occuptional overuse syndrome (OOS). That's because they see regular breaks as the answer to controlling OOS, but they don't see hearing protection as the answer to noise-induced hearing loss - they want the noise levels reduced.
