What our Prime Minister is reading

According to a recent herald interview, Helen Clark's favourite read in the weekend is The Guardian. She also keeps tabs on the Institute for Public Policy Research, which most recently has a paper on something called a single working age benefit. There's something on a National Savings gateway, and a report on how to get Incapacity beneficiaries working. And heres a release calling for a complete ban on smacking.

This is the stuff generating ideas on KiwiSaver, Single Core Benefit, and moves to get our Sickness and Invalids beneficiaries off benefits - except that the Savings Gateway is targeted to low income people, who are less likely to save - but KiwiSaver is targeted to workers under 65 - with a most likely uptake of those on higher incomes.
