The campaign for same sex marriage

The campaign for civil unions is now the campaign for the Marriage Act to be changed to allow for same sex marriage. And that was the plan all along.

The campaign has released this fact sheet on the
Marriage (Gender Clarification) Amendment Bill. Parliament is to decide on Wednesday whether to send the bill to a select committee. I don't think they have the numbers.

The Campaign regrets that some of our MPs find it necessary to attempt to restate and reinforce the discrimination against same sex couples by excluding them from a form of relationship recognition open to others. The Campaign says that the promoters of the bill are trying to raise arguments about the differences between heterosexual and homosexual relationships that were rejected in the debate surrounding civil unions.

Here's the media release from Campaign for Civil Union spokesperson Jeremy Lambert, who just so happens to be deputy chair (and spokesperson) of the AIDS Foundation. He's a bit upset that Gordon Copeland wants our Marriage Act amended so that it says what it it means.

Of course, if the arguments were as invalid as the Campaign makes out, we`d have gay marriage now, wouldnt we.

Furthermore, if the bill is inconsistant with the Bill of Rights, that also means that the Marriage Act, as it is currently interpreted, is also inconsistant. So why not change the Marriage Act altogether to include all couples.

Because the Government hasn't got the balls to do a Marriage Amendment Bill as it knows it will be defeated.
