back again, with National and Labour both poised to form a Government
Sorry about the lack of blog postings this second half of the week. I have a new job, car and phone - finally left WINZ - and now am no longer a public servant, so I can say what I like. I felt like a minority in that place because of my skin colour, and was treated as such, particularly last year. However I had no recognition of my minority status by anyone in the Labour Government. Perhaps I`ll blog more on that later.
I've also been on jury service and had a drink with the accused, who was acquitted. Well I would have if I had been on this juryTheres no law against a juror having a drink with an accused who has been cleared in court. Just like there's no law against laying irresponsible charges.
Now to ACC. The Herald has finally noted that retired judge Peter Trapski has called for an inquiry into the ACC as it has gone back to the bad old days. Trapski said that perhaps claimants could petition ACC Minister Ruth Dyson for an inquiry and possibly Prime Minister Helen Clark or "Parliament itself".
Indeed. Trapski conducted an inquiry into the ACC several years ago and made several recommendations , most of which have not been taken up. I got a copy of the letter and Trapski's reply emailed to me early in the week. Part of it said:
I was commissioned by the ACC itself. The then Managing
Director commissioned me to make my enquiry so that I had the authority and the financial backing of the Managing Director and the Board. It would have been impossible otherwise. I am convinced that is what is
needed now. For anyone to come in from the outside and attempt to
conduct a meaningful enquiry would be futile. They would be blocked or
stymied on every front.
I wish you well as I believe some action is well overdue
One of ACC's general managers, Gerard McGreevy said Trapski's comments were surprising, sad and uninformed. That's exactly the kind of dismissive "ACC can do no wrong" culture that everyone is complaining about. McGreevy is the most hated man in ACC by some. here's a report of my run in with him Read it. Slack. Prick. Nothing has changed in that respect at ACC.
Finally, the new Government. Labour is poised to form a Government, well it was earlier in the week, according to Journalists Who Voted Labour. Now it's not. In fact Don Brash is poised to form a Government. Everything depends on Winston Peters. He's just poised, but is not sure what for.The left is staying strangely silent. Do they all know something I don’t?
