United Future
United Future is an interesting party. It has as a leader the sole person who has been a Cabinet Minister in both a National and Labour - led Government. Twelve of the top 15 candidates are Christians, which is pretty unique but not really a selling point. Three candidates have blogs. Some of its candidates don't like Don Brash because he voted for the Civil Union Bill. I wonder why the Exclusive Brethren boys like him? Had United Future got 502 more votes at the last election they would have had an extra MP to defeat the Prostitution bill. That`ll teach those who voted CHP instead. This year some of the CHP voters will vote United Future, but many of those who voted United Future last election will switch back to National.
United Future is proud of its contribution to stable Government. Keeping your promises is important, according to UF candidate John Pickering. Labour promised Civil Unions - well, at least relationship recognition. Keeping that promise was also important to Labour.
Some of its MP's have a hang up with prostitution, civil unions and Winston Peters. Thankfully the top three list candidates do not - and it looks like they`ll be the only United Future MPs inside Parliament come next Sunday.
There is a difference being a Christian politician and a Christian who wants to influence politics because of his or her Christian faith. The top three on the UF list fit into the former category. Obviously people like Paul Adams never did.
