NZ First and the police
NZ First put out it’s party list ( on the last day) and, on current polling, six current MPs could be looking for a new job, including Jim Peters. Nobody is standing as a candidate in Wellington Central. Susan Baragwanath is eighth on the list, replacing Craig McNair who drops three. If this translates to polling day McNair is looking for a job, while Baragwanath has a new one.
What's George Hawkins doing lately? Certainly not speaking up for the police. Neither is Helen Clark. She says the cops are lying about the motorcade. Of course, she's telling the truth. She disputes sworn evidence from the police but refused to front up in court herself because he hasn’t got the balls to do so. But then again, she's not a man. I know she is not a man because Don Brash said she wasn't .
Anyway Hawkins staff have been busy. They have been writing cut and paste media releases off a template saying exactly the same thing in different words, namely that our "roads, homes and communities" are safer than now than in the 1990s as police are being given the resources to do the job. Ha!
Release 1:"The fact is that New Zealand's homes, communities and roads are safer today than they were in the 1990's and that is due to this Government giving Police the resources they need to do their job."
Release 2 " The reality is that New Zealanders are safer in their homes, their communities and on their roads than they have been in decades."
Release 3 "We have given Police the resources necessary to make our homes, communities and roads safer than they have been in decades. The simple fact is that New Zealand is a safer place to live in than it was in the 1990's"
Tell that to the people in Papakura those in the North Shore, or Manukau In fact you may recall the staffing levels were so bad that Hawkins directed the Police to shut down part of their public website that lists actual police staffing numbers.
What's changed? Well we are told that with further significant increase to police numbers and resources New Zealanders can be reassure that our homes and roads will be even safer."
