Capill may be behind bars but CHP still has some bigots

The Christian Heritage Party's site may be "temporarily unavailable" but This media release, entitled "Don't Rely on National for Family Values" shows that the CHP has carried on where Graham Capill left off as far as their aversion to homosexual people is concerned.
Chris Finlayson is a lawyer placed at no.27 on the National party list (likely to get into Parliament). He is open about his homosexuality and says "It is not an issue as far as I am concerned, nor is it an issue for the leader or president.
We don't just need to change the government, we need to change the nation. That will require people in Parliament who have real conviction; people who will pro-actively pursue a pro-marriage, pro-family and pro-life agenda. We can't expect that from the National Party".

Thank God we can't expect it from the CHP either because it won't be represented in Parliament. THe party is just not mainstream. Oh, that word again. Finlayson is the only National MP mentioned in the media release. Why? Because he is GAY. And the fact that he is gay is an issue for CHP.

As DPF notes, it makes a mockery of "love the sinner , hate the sin" - and there is nowhere in the Bible that says being a homosexual is a sin any more the being a heterosexual is.

UPDATE I've just spoken to Ewen McQueen, who is the Christian Heritage Party leader. I asked him why he targeted Chris Finlayson - was it because of his political views or his sexual orientation. He replied "his sexual orientation - and I think people should be aware of that. Christians need to know his sexual orientation"

But he didn’t tell Christians, he told the media.

"People need to know that someone like that is standing for the National party," MvQueen said. In other words, because he is GAY, therefore he is not fit to be an MP because his GAY views influence public policy. Yes, that is what he told me.

Following that strange logic, gay people should not be journalists or lawyers - in fact they may as well all work for the AIDS Foundation or GayNZ.com.

Anyway, if you intend to vote for the CHP, leave a note explaining why the party should get your vote.

This is something I've posted on the same issue elsewhere (DPFs blog, actually):

"...homosexuality does not conform with CHs biblically based family policy. Hence they speak out against it.
What is wrong with that?

All parties speak out against what other parties propose becasue it doesn't conform with their policies, and in far more aggressive tones than McQueen uses here."

"aggressive" should more correctly read "personally attacking".
