Nationals 'non-mainstream" candidate

National has it's first non-mainstream candidate standing for election this year. He 's not only non-mainstream, he's openly non-mainstream. Mana candidate and barrister Chris Finlayson, who is 27th on National's list and on current polling is assured of a seat in Parliament. Finlayson, a conservative Roman Catholic, opposes gay marriage and fears same-sex civil unions could harm heterosexual marriage.
