it's a bit off, Goff
An opposition MP in Zimbabwe has been jailed for a year for pushing a minister during a parliamentary debate. Roy Bennett's family and his farm managers were evicted from their land in April, and that many of his employees had been killed, raped or shot. Bennett had been assaulted three times and jailed twice.
Phil Goff thinks that’s a bit off, so he sends the Government a nice little letter saying that the sentence is far too hard as Bennett's actions were the culmination of years of political persecution aimed at the Opposition MDC Party, the MP, his family and employees.
Let's hope Mugabe sends a "naff off Goff" letter back, telling him what a hypocrite he is for writing the letter while detaining Ahmed Zaoui in solitary confinement for two years without charge, despite Zaoui's attempts to get away from years of oppression himself.
Goff will probably really like to oppose bail when Zaouis case comes up on Thursday.

Just one question. How do you grant bail to someone who actually hasn't actually been charged with anything?

And remember, a lot of us LLLs (Labour-leanin' luvvies)
actually agree with the Free Zaoui campaigners on this one, in the absence of any definitive evidence that Mr Zaoui does constitute a 'security risk.'
Craig
