Margaret Wilson is pretty quiet at the moment

Who would have thought abolishing the Privy Council would come to the state our current government is in. If the Government had appealed the Appeal Court decision on the Foreshore and Seabed to the Privy Council, we would still be waiting on the result. Don Brash would not be the preferred Prime Minister as he is at present, and Labour would not be behind National in the polls. Tariana Turia would still be a Minister. Most importantly, those of us in Wellington would all be able to get to work on time without leaving early, as there would be no Hikoi to potentially dusrupt traffic.

As David Farrer notes, the Government would look a bit stupid appealing the decision given that they were intending to get rid of the Privy Council anyway. Never mind that most of the country wanted to keep links with the Privy Council. Margaret Wilson's decision could be the catalyst for a new Government at the next election, if not before if Helen Clark decides she cannot govern with out a majority.

Labour may have to wear the consequences of putting politics before government. In the meantime Ms Clark can have fun and spend time with animals like Shrek the sheep - after all she finds it much better company than meeting a human Hikoi. Hey, if sheep were polled, maybe Ms Clark would be preferred Prime Minister.

And if Labour has to do a deal with the Greens as well as United Future and the Progressives, just so it could govern, Winston Peters would be left in the outer after being pivotal in the wording of the F&S legislation.

This Government, however will do anything to get legislation passed.
